How an answer is graded
Requirements, the grading queue, XP and streaks, and what passing opens.
Updated
Requirements
Every problem is graded by its requirements: the columns, geometry and CRS the brief asks for, and the result itself. What will be checked lists them before you submit, each with its share of the score; informational ones score nothing.
The queue
A submission waits in a queue until a grader takes it; the button shows Grading, or Queued with how many are ahead. You can have three out at a time.
- Not sent means it never reached the grader and nothing was recorded: send it again.
- Could not grade means the platform could not run it, and nothing was scored.
- Closing the page before it is graded stops it, and nothing is recorded.
XP
Passing a problem earns its XP, adjusted like this:
| XP | |
|---|---|
| The problem | Its base XP, set by its difficulty |
| Hints you opened | Less each hint's stated share |
| Solved well under the estimate | +10% of the base, on a first solve in under 60% of the estimated time |
| Today's challenge | +50% of the base, first solve only |
| Your streak | +1% a day of it, up to 30%, first solve only |
| Solved before | 10% of the base, at most once a day |
Revealing the solution before you pass gives up that problem's XP.
Streaks and levels
Your streak counts days in a row (UTC) with at least one pass; miss a day and it starts again. XP adds up to levels.
What passing opens
- Solution: the approach, a reference implementation, why it works and what goes wrong.
- Discuss: where solvers share approaches. You can post once you have passed.
- The mentor's walkthrough of an ideal solution — see Use hints, the solution and the mentor.
