Review a delivery

Flag every feature of a delivery that breaks a rule of its specification — on the map, in the list or pasted — and submit the review, graded rule by rule.

Updated

Some problems are a review. A contractor, a field crew or another department has delivered a dataset, the brief states the specification it has to meet, and your answer is every feature that breaks it, each with the rule it breaks — the acceptance pass a GIS team runs before a delivery is paid for. Each rule is filed under the ISO 19157 data-quality element a report would use.

Flag a feature

  1. Step 1: Choose a feature: click it on the map, or click its row under Features. Search the list for a value, a feature's name such as #17, or “no geometry” for the records the map cannot draw, and press Enter to open the first match.

  2. Step 2: The feature opens above the list with every attribute as the file holds it — text in quotes, so a number stored as text shows — and each attribute's type beside it. Its positions are under the geometry's name. Show on the map frames it; Previous and Next step through the file.

  3. Step 3: Tick each rule the feature breaks. A feature can break more than one, and is flagged once for each. A note on the feature is kept for the correction crew and never scored.

  4. Step 4: Your flags are drawn on the map in your result colour and listed under Your flags, rule by rule, where each can be opened or taken off. Submit when the review is done.

Many at once

  • Sort puts the list in the order of one attribute: shared values sit side by side, numbers come before text and empty values last, so a placeholder or a number stored as text stands at one end.
  • With the list narrowed by a search, choose a rule and Flag them flags every feature shown. Flagged only shows what you have flagged so far.
  • Paste a list takes a review worked out in your own GIS or a script: one flag a line, the feature then the rule — 17, duplicate-ref — the rule by its name or its id. Add these flags adds them, and lists any line it could not read with the reason.
  • A review holds up to 2,000 flags, the most the grader reads. Past that nothing more is added, and the page says so.

How a feature is named

By its own id when every feature has one and no two are the same; otherwise by its place in the file, #1 being the first. The line above the feature list says which, and a pasted list names features the same way.

How a review is graded

  • Each rule on its own. A rule passes when every feature that breaks it is flagged for it, and no feature that meets it is.
  • A feature flagged under the wrong rule is a miss for one rule and a false flag for the other.
  • Short of a pass, a rule scores between the two. The results panel says how many of your flags were right and how many were wrong, and once a rule passes, how many features it caught.
  • Your notes are kept with the review and shown back, and never scored.
